Good morning and welcome to Conoy BIC Church! This morning we begin a new teaching series called Unfiltered Faith where we engage topics specific to the church. Today we begin with a sermon called "Gathered & Sent" that tries to get at the root of the question, asked across generations, 'what's the point of the church?' But...before we get to that we'll engage in dynamic worship, heartfelt prayer and being together in community. Thanks for joining us today!

This morning we engage the topic and idea of evangelism. As we discussed last week - the point of the church is to share the message of forgiveness in Christ with the whole world. Yet, there are ineffective ways to share the message and will close the door of relationships. Relationships are the key to sharing good news with anyone - are we committed to engaging faithfully in relationships with others as we live under the law of love given to us by Jesus? Or are we committed to sharing a message despite any effect it may have on others?

Many people outside the Christian faith find the hurdle to the gospel message isn’t the message but the messenger. Many inside the Christian faith take it as a badge of honor when they are disliked or pushed away because of their Christian values. But, the question must be asked - are they pushed away because of the values and message or because of the expectations that they place on others to hold the same values or the way they bring the message. It’s a tough question to ask but it’s one worth asking.

We’ve long seen other cultures around the world move to a post-christian understanding of the world where they are not raised in the church nor do they have an upbringing in a Christian household. When this is repeated generationally on a large scale - we have a post christian culture. More and more of America would fall into this category. Is this a help or a hindrance to the good news that we bring? How do we engage our communities and relationships in a post-christian culture? We engage this and more today!

We’ve decided that the 5th Sunday of each month will represent a long standing Christian rhythm of lament. Not everyday can feel “top of the world” and joyful as we journey through life. Sometimes we need to express our concerns, hardships and pain. The people of God have known this for thousands of years and there are many scriptures of lament that we can draw on. This morning we dive into a sermon called “The Sacred Gift of Lament” that will engage these scriptures and give permission, if it is needed, to trust God with our grief.
